Description: A crappy shot of a peculiar little weed. This has been in the open border since before I started at Pool Meadow and all it has produced before is one leaf. (The crocus leaves around it here give some idea how conspicuous that is.) This year it has, for some reason, decided to produce some flowers. FYI Bongardia is a small tuberous member of the Berberidaceae (related to Epimedium) from western and central Asia and is usually only recommended for bulb frames and alpine houses where it can be kept dry in summer.
