Philanthus pulchellus is a species of bee-hunting wasp (or "beewolf") of the Iberian Peninsula (Spain, Portugal, and France).[2] Males are territorial and establish territories in nesting areas of females, or in the case of smaller males that are unable to do so, nearby. Females are generalist predators of bees and wasps, including conspecifics, and store the prey in their underground nest.[3]

Philanthus pulchellus é uma espécie de insetos himenópteros, mais especificamente de vespas pertencente à família Crabronidae.

A autoridade científica da espécie é Spinola, tendo sido descrita no ano de 1843.

Trata-se de uma espécie presente no território português.[1]

Comportamento

As fêmeas desta espécie fazem ninhos com várias células. O ninho pode ser fechado de maneira temporária, em alturas em que se dá o aprovisionamento de comida. Podem capturar abelhas e vespas, incluindo indivíduos da mesma espécie.[2]

Segundo o sítio Sphecidae of Europe, a espécie tem os seguintes sinónimos:[3]
