Sakagami and Tadauchi (1995) describe this species and present illustrations and morphometric measurements of Lasioglossum nipponicola, L. sphecodicolor, and L. ebmerianum. Lasioglossum shpecodicolor is small and black (5.5 - 6.2 mm long). It is found on both Honshu and Hokkaido Islands in Japan, although only southernmost Hokkaido. The authors believe it is widespread in Japan, even if not very common. No information is given about social or nesting biology. Floral records include: Polygonum longisetum, Deutzia crenata, Hydrangea serrata, Taraxacum ofjkinale. The authors propose that L. sphecodicolor is closely related to the similar L. eidmanni of eastern Asia.
