Okanagana vanduzeei is one of the most common species of Okanagana in collections. It is known from California, Idaho, Nevada, Oregon, Utah, and Washington (U.S.A.), British Columbia (Canada), and Mexico. It has been reported to inhabit chaparral, California forests, intermountain areas, Rocky Mountain vegetation, and the Palouse prairie]. Sanborn & Phillips reported collecting it from a variety grasses and sage (Artemisia spp.) over a wide range of California and it has been associated with dry grasses in fields and hillsides of California.It has also been known to use wild buckwheat (Eriogonum spp.), sage, Baccharis spp., goldenrod (Solidago spp.) and pines (Pinus spp.), but is rarely found in trees.
