Boloria polaris is resident in Alaska and arctic Canada, and also ranges to Scandinavia and Asia (Scott 1986). Habitat is arctic tundra. Host plants are restricted to a small number of species from herbaceous genus Dryas (Rosaceae), and probably also Vaccinium uliginosum (Ericaecae). Eggs are laid on the host plant singly or in clusters of 2-20 eggs per clutch. Individuals overwinter as larvae. There is one flight each year with the approximate flight time mostly late June-July31 (July15-Aug15 in Labrador), species is biennial and flies in even year in most places, odd years in c. Alaska, Churchill, Manitoba, and Baker Lake, NW Territiories (Scott 1986).
