This species can be diagnosed from all other known congeners by the combination of the following characters: body with several bands, broader than interspaces on caudal peduncle region, absent in the predorsal section; 3 pairs of barbels, almost as long as eye diameter; lateral line complete; caudal fin rounded with 2 short whitish bands; and black spot present at the upper extremity of caudal-fin base (Ref. 95217).
