Later workers have considered either that Quoy and Gaimard's figure was an immature specimen in which only one row of suckers had developed, or that the illustration was in error. Pfeffer (1912) in the appendix to his monograph stated that he had finally examined the type in Paris and that it was definitely an Abralia but that other parts were missing and the exact definition must remain in question.
