Feed on crustaceans and small fishes (Ref. 5259, 44894) but is considered an omnivore (Ref. 7300). Breeding presumably takes place during the dry season (Ref. 44894). Eggs are guarded and fanned by the male parent (Ref. 205). Not much known on its biology (Ref. 2906). Aquarium conditions: pH=7.8, H=8, 28°C water temperature, egg layer and a peaceful community fish (Ref. 6398).

The Kimberley spangled perch (Leiotherapon macrolepsis), also known as the large-scale grunter, is a species of freshwater ray-finned fish from the family Terapontidae. It is endemic to the Kimberley region of Western Australia. It is one of the most common species in one of the tributaries of the Prince Regent River.

It is sometimes kept as an aquarium pet.
