Yellow Eyed Silver Barb

Has 4 horizontal scale rows between lateral line and mid-dorsal scale row at dorsal-fin origin; 5-8 gill rakers in lower limb of first arch (Ref. 12693). Has 15-19 serrae along posterior edge of last simple dorsal ray (Ref. 43281).

Potamodromous. Migrating within streams, migratory in rivers, e.g. Saliminus, Moxostoma, Labeo. Migrations should be cyclical and predictable and cover more than 100 km.

Found in medium to large rivers. May grow to at least 30 cm.

原產於中南半島的河川中、下游流域。近年來引入台灣後，提供作為養殖魚類，目前普遍分布於西南部溪河的中、下游水域。

本種為養殖魚種，清蒸、紅燒、砂鍋魚頭或煮味噌皆適宜。

體高而強度側扁，體略呈方菱形，背緣輪廓隆起。頭短，略呈三角形。吻短。眼大，側位。口亞下位，呈深弧形。具鬚2對，頜鬚長於吻鬚。體被中大型圓鱗，背鰭、臀鰭的基部均具有鱗鞘。背鰭末根不分支鰭條為粗狀的硬棘，其後緣呈鋸齒狀，後方鰭條依序漸短；臀鰭第3根鰭條粗壯，但不具鋸齒；尾鰭為深叉狀，兩葉末端尖。體呈銀白色，背側灰褐色，腹側灰白色。體側無明顯的黑色橫帶；腹鰭微黃色；各鰭灰白色。

棲息於低海拔的溪河緩流區的河段，活躍於水體的中下層，可適應於濁度頗高的水域。雜食性，以水生昆蟲、底藻、甲殼類及小魚等為食。

Hypsibarbus pierrei is a species of freshwater ray-finned fish in the genus Hypsibarbus native to rivers in Mainland Southeast Asia.
