Potamodromous. Migrating within streams, migratory in rivers, e.g. Saliminus, Moxostoma, Labeo. Migrations should be cyclical and predictable and cover more than 100 km.

Inhabits torrential hill-streams in shallow waters (Ref. 4832). Adults migrate to warmer regions of lakes and streams during winter (Ref. 40974). Used commonly by anglers as bait for Raiamas bola and Tor putitora. Herbivorous (Refs. 40948, 56237).

The kalabans (Bangana dero) is a species of cyprinid fish found in streams in the Himalayan foothills in India, Nepal, and China. It is also found in Bangladesh.
