Biology

Inhabits the littoral and sublittoral zones. Most are caught over sand or shingle, few over mud substrate (Ref. 4983). Feeds on cichlid embryo or larvae. The smallest specimen which was examined proved exceptional in that the stomach was filled with Copepoda and blue-green algae (Ref. 558).
