Stromata consisting of a thin effuse subiculum overspreading the hymenium of the host and obliterating the gills, forming an even layer, bright lemon-yellow sometimes slightly fading ; perithecia numerous, small, immersed in the subiculum or with the necks slightly protruding, darker than the subiculum, pale-brownish ; asci cylindric ; spores 1-seriate, fusiform with a short apiculus at each end, occasionally blunt at both ends, smooth or very minutely rough, 15-20 X 4 /i, simple, oozing out and forming a white powder over the surface of the stroma.
On the hymenium of Lactaria ca-mphorata (Bull.) Fries. Type locality : Port Jefferson, New York. Distribution : New York.

Hypomyces camphorati is a parasitic ascomycete in the family Hypocreaceae. Its host species is Lactarius camphoratus, and it causes a whitish to yellowish subiculum to form on the hymenium of the host, covering and preventing formation of the gills. It also causes deformed cap shape and densifying flesh.

Hypomyces camphorati is often treated as Hypomyces lateritius, but it is set apart by its yellowish coloration and slightly larger ascospores. Further research is required to determine whether H. camphorati is indeed a separate species.
