Hamadryas amphinome is found in North America only as a stray occurring in Texas and Arizona; it is resident from Mexico south to Argentina (Scott 1986). Habitats are tropical forest clearings. Host plants are vines restricted several species in genus Dalechampia (Euphorbiaceae). Eggs are laid in strings of five to ten on top of each other, with 30-100 eggs in a clutch. There are multiple flights all year in Mexico, esp. July 1-Oct 31 (Scott 1986).

Hamadryas amphinome, the red cracker, is a species of cracker butterfly in the family Nymphalidae, native to regions of North and South America.

Distribution

It is found from Mexico, through the Caribbean and Central America, to the Amazon basin including in Brazil, Guianas, Peru, and Bolivia, and south into Argentina.

Food source

The larvae feed on Dalechampia scandens.
