Description: Ephedra californica—California jointfir. California's version of the genus historically called Mormon tea. Photo shows a pollen cone that measures less than 8 mm long bearing sporangiophores of 3 to 5 mm. Also shown are the remains of bracts. Visible also are fine lines on the stem. The species is largely a desert species but also found in grasslands all the way to the sea in southern California.
