They are native to Pará, Maranhao, Amazônia, Piauí, Bahia, GoiáS, The Neotropics, Minas Gerais, Distrito Federal, Mato Grosso, Alagoas, SãO Paulo, Amapá, Ceará, Pernambuco, Acre (Brazil), RondôNia, and Cerrado. They have simple, broad leaves and green flowers. Flowers are visited by Thrinchostoma productum. Individuals can grow to 10 feet.
