Description: Diplotomma alboatrum (Hoffm.) Flotow Image location: Lummi Island, Whatcom Co., Washington, USA on Si rock in salt spray zone very distinctive spores which look (faintly) 1-septate but develop into multiiple round locales (not oil bodies) as Buellia alboatra in Nash et al. Apparently D. chlorophanum which was also found nearby (
https://mushroomobserver.org/97301?q=Nt0q ) is considered by some to be a variety of D. alboatra which contains norstictic acid. It does differ is some other characteristics though. Interesting that both are found in the same small area. Used references: Smith, C.W., Aptroot, A., Coppins, B.J., Fletcher, A., Gilbert, O.L., James, P.W. and Wolseley, P.A.
