Description: Diplotomma alboatrum (Hoffm.) Flotow Image location: Peniche, Portugal Growing on calcareous rock. Spores greenish when young soon brown, 3-sepate to submuriform, with dimensions: (11.9) 13.3 – 15.8 (16.8) x (5.2) 6.1 – 7.7 (8.3) µm Q = (1.6) 1.9 – 2.4 (2.8) ; N = 30 Me = 14.6 × 6.9 µm ; Qe = 2.1 Used references: 1) British; 2) AFL http://www.afl-lichenologie.fr/.. Description: Diplotomma alboatrum (Hoffm.) Flotow Image location: Lummi Island, Whatcom Co., Washington, USA on Si rock in salt spray zone very distinctive spores which look (faintly) 1-septate but develop into multiiple round locales (not oil bodies) as Buellia alboatra in Nash et al. Apparently D. chlorophanum which was also found nearby ( https://mushroomobserver.org/97301?q=Nt0q ) is considered by some to be a variety of D. alboatra which contains norstictic acid. It does differ is some other characteristics though. Interesting that both are found in the same small area.
