Suzanne's Spurge

Euphorbia susannae Marloth

Species Overview

provided by EOL authors

This bright green succulent is listed as Endangered on the IUCN Red List, due to its rarity and highly limited distribution in the Kleine Karoo, being chiefly known to the Ladismith and Calitzdorp areas of Southern Africa. Some specimens exceed 0.3 metres in diametre. The bloom of Susanne's Spurge is a very attractive pale pink. Characteristic rainfall in this portion of the karoo approximates 15 centimetres per annum. Typical soils in which Susanne's Spurge is found are sandy with notable rock occurrences, especially of white quartz. The species was first noted by Dr. John Muir in the year 1925, but not fully described until four years later by Marloth.
