Pistia stratiotes (Water Lettuce) is a species of perennial herb in the family Araceae. They have a self-supporting growth form. They are associated with freshwater habitat. They are native to GoiáS, Cerrado, Rio Grande Do Norte, Espirito Santo, Puerto Rico, Alagoas, Minas Gerais, Middle America, ParaíBa, Acre (Brazil), Atlantic And Gulf Coastal Plain (Agcp), Pará, South America, Maranhao, Santa Catarina, Mato Grosso, Caatinga, Bahia, U.S. Virgin Islands, AmazôNia, Rio Grande Do Sul, SãO Paulo, Mato Grosso Do Sul, Pernambuco, Piauí, The Contiguous United States, Rio De Janeiro, Ceará, Amapá, Pantanal, Sergipe, Paraná, and Mata Atlântica. They have simple, broad leaves. Individuals can grow to 0.2 m.
