Smilax aspera (Catbrier) is a species of shrub in the family Smilacaceae. They are climbers. They have simple, broad leaves and fleshy fruit. Flowers are visited by Lang's Short-tailed Blue, Lasioglossum villosulum, Cerceris arenaria, and Metasyrphus corollae. Individuals can grow to 8 m.
