M 57-59 mm at the type locality, M 44 mm, F 46 mm in a population from Andapa. This species is morphologically similar to G. depressiceps. Individuals from the type locality, which occur sympatrically with G. depressiceps and G. tornieri, have a larger body size. This species is found near An'Ala in eastern Madagascar, and Andapa in north-eastern Madagascar (Glaw and Vences 2007), from 500-840 m asl (Glaw and Vallan 2008). Its habitat is pristine rainforest or secondary bushland, along swampy streams (Glaw and Vallan 2008).

Habits: Similar to G. depressiceps. White egg masses are a shared character only between these two species (G. kathrinae and G. depressiceps) (Glaw and Vences 2007). It breeds in pools and swamps close to streams (Glaw and Vallan 2008).Calls: Series of 3-4 notes, each consisting of up to 7 pulses (Glaw and Vences 2007).

Cette espèce est endémique de Madagascar. Elle se rencontre entre 500 et 840 m d'altitude dans les environs d'Andapa, dans le Nord-Est, et d'An'Ala, dans l'est de l'île[1],[2].

Description

Les 3 spécimens mâles adultes observés lors de la description originale mesurent entre 56,7 mm et 58,6 mm de longueur standard[3].

Étymologie

Son nom d'espèce, kathrinae, lui a été donné en l'honneur de Kathrin Schmidt en reconnaissance de son aide dans l'étude des amphibiens et reptiles malgaches ; ses enregistrements de chants d'appel à Andapa ont notamment permis une clarification dans les relations et la distribution des différentes espèces du groupe Mantidactylus depressiceps[3].

Herpetologie

Guibemantis kathrinae is een kikker uit de familie gouden kikkers (Mantellidae). De soort werd voor het eerst wetenschappelijk beschreven door Frank Glaw, Miguel Vences en Viola Gossmann in 2000 onder de naam Mantidactylus kathrinae. De soort behoort tot het geslacht Guibemantis.[2]

De soort is endemisch in Madagaskar.[3] De soort komt voor in kleine populaties in het oosten van het eiland en leeft op een hoogte van 500 tot 840 meter boven zeeniveau.
