Stems 3.5–6 dm. Leaf blade 1–3 dm × 3–5 mm. Racemes open, 8–15 cm. Tepals 7–10 × 1.5–2.5 mm; stamens 3–4 mm; anthers brick red; pedicel 8–15 mm. Capsules 8–12 mm including beaks. Seeds 1.5–2 mm, 6–8 mm including bristle-tails. 2n = 26.

Narthecium californicum is a species of flowering plant known by the common name California bog asphodel. It is native to the mountains of southern Oregon and northern California, where it grows in wet habitat such as streambanks and meadows.[1] It is a rhizomatous perennial monocot producing an erect stem up to about 60 centimeters tall. The base of the plant is surrounded by linear, grasslike leaves up to 30 centimeters long. The inflorescence is a raceme of many yellow flowers with six pointed tepals no more than a centimeter long. The fruit is a lance-shaped capsule containing many bristle-tailed seeds.

Narthecium californicum, es una especie de planta fanerógama perteneciente a la familia Nartheciaceae. Es originaria de Norteamérica por donde se distribuye desde el sudoeste de Oregón hasta el centro de California.

Descripción

Es una especie con tallos de 3.5-6 dm dm de altura. Con hojas de 10-30 cm × 3-5 mm. En forma de racimos abiertos de 8 - 15 cm. El fruto en cápsulas de 8 - 12 mm incluido el pico y semillas de 1,5-2 mm. Su número de cromosomas es de 2n = 26.

Hábitat

Narthecium californicum puede ser localmente común en el norte de las montañas de la costa y en Sierra Nevada de California, así como en el suroeste de Oregón. La floración se produce a mediados - finales de verano. Se encuentra en los pantanos y en las praderas de montaña, a una altura de 700 - 2800 metros.
