Acer platanoides + Acer pseudoplatanus - leaves (+ Polypodium vulgare + Geranium robertianum) (4820' N 1503' E)

Description:
2011-10-23 Lower Austria, district Melk - Ysperklamm (740 msm Quadrant 7656/3).German name: Spitz-Ahorn + Berg-AhornUsually - at this altitude, in ravine forests like this one - Acer pseudoplatanus should dominate, here however Acer platanoides is more common than the former: the latter needs warmer climate and usually only would dominate at lower altitudes. The reason for this might be that the valley is orientated to the south, and thus provides for a warmer micro-climate fitting for Acer platanoides.
