Fraxinus excelsior (+ Polygonatum multiflorum + Anemone nemorosa) (4833' N 1348' E)
Description:
2011-04-30 Upper Austria, district Rohrbach - mixed forest (705 msm Quadrant 7448/2).German name: Gewhnlich-EscheAsh is a pioneer tree, and the fact that there are several young ones growing here illustrates the fact that some trees have been felled here: ash might come to dominate here for some decades but then make place for beech and fir, if left alone (by leaves found on the ground it is clear that at least some Fagus sylvatica grows close-by) - which however is doubtful: as you can see, there are plenty of Picea abies trees nearby, which are not native in this habitat; it is possible that the owner soon will again plant some spruce.Of herbaceous plants, most prominent here are Polygonatum multiflorum and Anemone nemorosa; and also ubiquitous Oxalis acetosella.
