Choranthias tenuis, the threadnose bass, is a species of ray-finned fish within the family Serranidae.[1] Its distribution covers the western Atlantic near areas such as Bermuda, North Carolina, Florida, Texas, Georgia, South Carolina, Mississippi, Venezuela, Guyana, southeastern Gulf of Mexico, Yucatan, Puerto Rico, and the southern Caribbean, where it lives in subtropical waters over hard bottoms with large rocks that allow for micro habitats.[2][3] The depths the species occurs is 55 to 915 meters, however individuals are more commonly found at depths less than 150 meters. It is commonly found at 8 centimeters in length and a maximum of 9 centimeters. It feeds on plankton and swims in schools.[3]
Choranthias tenuis has been assessed as a 'Least concern' species by the IUCN Red List as it has a large distribution with no known major threats. It does occasionally occur in the aquarium trade.[3]

Choranthias tenuis (Nichols, 1920), es la única especie del género Choranthias. Es un pez óseo marino perteneciente a la familia Serranidae y a la subfamilia Anthiinae.
Procede del Océano Atlántico, donde está habita fondos rocosos, por lo general entre los 55 y los 150 m de profundidad. Está presente desde Carolina del Norte a la Guyana.[1]
Tiene un cuerpo alargado y comprimido lateralmente que no supera los 9 cm.[1] Las aletas pectorales y ventrales son pálidas, los ojos amarillos.[2] El cuerpo es rosa-anaranjado claro, virando a amarillo en dirección a la cabeza.
Vive en cardúmenes y se alimenta de plancton.[1]
Esta especie está clasificada como "en riesgo mínimo" (LC) en la lista roja de IUCN porque es común en su área de distribución y no está particularmente amenazada.[1]

Choranthias tenuis (Nichols, 1920), unica specie del genere Choranthias, è un pesce osseo marino appartenente alla famiglia Serranidae e alla sottofamiglia Anthiinae.
Proviene dall'oceano Atlantico, dove è diffuso sui fondali rocciosi, in genere tra 55 e 150 m di profondità; è presente dalla Carolina del Nord alla Guyana[1].
Presenta un corpo allungato, compresso sui lati, che non supera i 9 cm[1]. Le pinne pettorali e ventrali sono pallide, gli occhi sono gialli[2]. Il corpo è rosa-arancione chiaro, la colorazione sfuma al giallastro sulla testa.
Vive in banchi[1].
Questa specie è classificata come "a rischio minimo" (LC) dalla lista rossa IUCN perché è comune nel suo areale e non è minacciata da particolari pericoli[1].

Anthias tenuis is een straalvinnige vissensoort uit de familie van zaag- of zeebaarzen (Serranidae).[1] De wetenschappelijke naam van de soort is voor het eerst geldig gepubliceerd in 1920 door Nichols.
