Aciagrion approximans,[2] Indian violet dartlet,[3] is a species of damselfly in the family Coenagrionidae. It is found in east[1][4] and south[5][3][4] of India. The range extends to Thailand, China and Cambodia.[5][3][4]
Fraser considered the specimen found in northeast as Aciagrion approximans and in south as Aciargion hisopa race krishna.[6][5] A recent study revealed that the subspecies krishna found in south is not conspecific with A. hisopa and found to be very close to A. approximans found in northeast; but differing at the level of subspecies.[4][3]
It is a small, slim, slender damselfly with violet and black colors. Its thorax is black with lateral violet stripes. Segments 2 to 7 of the abdomen are black on dorsum and violet in the ventral half. Segments 8 and 9 are violet without any marks. Segment 10 is black on dorsum. The lower half of segment 8 is marked with black in A. a. krishna. Female is similar to the male; but paler in colors. Segments 8 and 9 are black and 10 is blue on dorsum.[5][4]
It breeds in ponds, lakes or in slow moving streams.[5][4]

Fraser considerou o espécime encontrado no nordeste como Aciagrion approximans e no sul como Aciargion hisopa raça krishna.[5][4] Um estudo recente revelou que a subespécie krishna encontrada no sul não é coespecífica com A. hisopa e encontrada muito próxima de A. approximans encontrada no nordeste; mas diferindo no nível de subespécies.[3][2]
É uma libelinha pequena, esbelta com cores violeta e preta. Seu tórax é preto com listras violáceas laterais. Os segmentos 2 a 7 do abdome são pretos no dorso e violetas na metade ventral. Os segmentos 8 e 9 são violetas sem marcas. O segmento 10 é preto no dorso. A metade inferior do segmento 8 está marcada com preto em A. a. krishna. A fêmea é semelhante ao macho; mas mais pálida nas cores. Os segmentos 8 e 9 são pretos e o 10 é azul no dorso.[4][3]
Reproduz em lagoas, lagos ou em riachos lentos.[4][3]
