Eccilia pungens Murrill, sp. nov
Pileus convex, not fully expanding, deeply umbilicate, gregarious, 4-6 cm . broad ; surface smooth, glabrous, hygrophanous, avellaneous, somewhat striate with darker lines, margin incurved, concolorous, at first entire, becoming conspicuously lobed or plicate with age; context thin, pallid, with a sweetish, pungent taste and a distinct odor of chloride of lime; lamellae short-decurrent, subdistant, arcuate or plane, many times inserted, white to salmon-colored, entire and concolorous on the edges; spores broadly ellipsoid, angular, apiculate, imiguttulate, rose-colored, 8-10 X 7 m; stipe equal, compressed, solid, smooth, glabrous, subconcolorous, 4—5 cm. long, 4—5 mm. thick.
Type collected in soil in damp deciduous woods in the New York Botanical Garden, August 10, 1915, W. A. Murrill (herb. N. Y. Bot. Gard.).
Distribution: Known only from the type locality.
