Archegonial thallus suborbicular, 3-8 mm. in diameter, pale-green when dried, the marginal lobes orbicular, ascending, the marginal cells generally quadrate, 26-45 fj,; archegonial involucres 0.85-1.2 mm. high, sessile, thickly aggregated, at first cylindric, soon becoming subglobose or obovoid, rounded at apex, the orifice small, the cells at the orifice arcuate-pro tuberant, 26-40 ju; antheridial thallus cuneate, 2 mm. long, often once furcate, with oblongovate lobes ; antheridial involucres 500-580 m in height, about 2.5 times their diameter; capsules 500-800 M in diameter, the bulbous foot remaining attached to the capsule; spores separating long before the maturity of the capsule, never persisting in tetrads, compressed, roundedbiconvex or sometimes concavo-convex, yellowish-brown or pale-yellow, 52-80 fj. in maximum diameter, cristate, the crests sinuous, 4-7 /x high, subcrenulate, mostly radiating from near the middle of each of the two faces, often 1-3 times furcate, sparingly anastomosing, forming sometimes 1-6 (rarely more) completely closed meshes in most cases near the middle of the face.

Sphaerocarpos cristatus er ein thalloid levermose som finst berre i California. Som hjå andre artar i slekta er thallus hjå S. cristatus dekt av kuleaktige utvekstar, som i røynda er kanten av thalluset. Sporane sit i eit firkløver, men til skilnad frå alle andre artar i slekta skil dei seg tidleg i utviklinga.

Arten veks på flat jord på open mark, og finst berre i eit område i det nordlege California. Arten er utryddingstrua.

Sphaerocarpos cristatus là một loài rêu trong họ Sphaerocarpaceae. Loài này được M. Howe mô tả khoa học đầu tiên năm 1899.
