Malacothamnus jonesii is a California endemic that is found in the Outer South Coast Ranges of Monterey, San Luis Obispo and Santa Barbara Counties. This uncommon species occurs in open chaparral of foothill woodlands at elevations ranging from 250 to 830 meters.
With the common name of Slender bushmallow, this plant is typically less than 2.5 meters in height; the morphology includes generally velvety hairs. The slender branches slender are flexible and curved. Leaf blades are usually 2.5 to 4.5 centimeters in length and ovate to more or less diamond-shaped. Inflorescences are panicle-like. Flowers exhibit a calyx five to ten millimeters in size, with lobes free in bud. Chromosomes: 2n=34

Description
Malacothamnus jonesii is an erect shrub with a slender branching stem reaching two meters or more in height. It is coated densely in velvety white hairs, appearing feltlike. The thin, gray-green leaves are several centimeters long. The inflorescence is a loose cluster of a few pale pink flowers with narrow petals each under a centimeter long.
Distribution
Malacothamnus jonesii is endemic to California, where it grows in the chaparral and woodland of the California Coast Ranges in Monterey and San Luis Obispo Counties.
