A shrub with grayish somewhat flexuose branches, when young densely and minutely puberulent especially toward the ends, glabrous when old, armed with straight or curved brownish stipular prickles 3-7 mm. long ; petioles 1.5-3 cm. long, winged and thus forming broad leaf-like, obovate or elliptic-obovate phyllodes 0.7-2 cm. broad, reticulate-veined on both sides, shining above, beneath paler and sometimes bearing a prickle on the prominent midrib, the margin revolute, glandular, sparingly crenate ; leaflets 1 or 3, or wanting, sometimes obsolete and represented by a short prickle, obovate or elliptic-obovate, O.S-2.5 cm. long, 0.4-1.2 cm. broad, entire, cuneate, rounded or emarginateat the apex, not callusbearing at the base, sometimes bearing a solitary prickle on the back near the middle ; flowers solitary or few and glomerate in the axils of the leaves ; staminate flowers : sepals 4, decussate-imbricate, short-triangular to triangular-oval, obtuse, coriaceous, thinner at the margin ; "petals 4, imbricate in bud, elliptic to oval, 2.5-3 mm. long, 1.5-2 mm. broad, rounded or occasionally acute at the apex, coriaceous; stamens 4; filaments longer than the petals ; anthers short-ovate, obtuse ; gynophore somewhat thickened, short-conic, crowned by the two callus-like rudiments of the ovary ; pistillate flowers unknown ; follicles subglobose, 3^1 mm. in diameter, blackish-brown, wrinkled, short-stipitateor subsessile ; seeds subglobose, about 3 mm. in diameter, black, shining.
