Macropygia doreya Bonaparte 1854

Sultan's cuckoo-dove (Macropygia doreya) is a dove in the genus Macropygia found in the northern Moluccas, Sulawesi to New Guinea and the western Papuan islands. It was one of three new species defined when the slender-billed cuckoo-dove was split up in 2016.^[1]

Description

They are typically about 35–37 centimetres (14–15 in) long. The males tend to have a slight rose/green colouration on their nape and neck. Many subspecies have whitish underparts, fine dark barring below and/or a whitish cap.

The call of this dove is a very loud "whoop-a whoop" with some differences depending on the subspecies involved.

Sultan's cuckoo-dove inhabits rainforest, woodland, scrubland and rainforest regrowth areas.

The doves can often be seen in pairs or groups. Its diet consists of berries from both native plants and introduced weed species. They can be nomadic, depending on the supplies of food. They tend to fly short distances and low to the ground with great strength.

Breeding occurs in spring and summer. The nest is a flat platform of sticks and vines, either in a fork of a tree or on top of a low tree. One, creamy white, egg is laid.

La tórtola cuco sultán (Macropygia doreya)^[1]​ es una especie de ave columbiforme de la familia Columbidae encontrada en las islas Molucas, Célebes, Nueva Guinea y las islas cercanas. Es considerada una subespecie de la tórtola cuco pechirrosa (Macropygia amboinensis) por algunas autoridades taxonómicas.^[2]​

Subespecies

Se reconocen las siguientes subespecies:^[3]​^[4]​

• M. d. doreya Bonaparte, 1854 – en el oeste de Nueva Guinea (Irian Jaya) y las islas del oeste de Papúa;
• M. d. balim Rand, 1941 – en el valle de Baliem en el centro norte de Nueva Guinea;

• M. d. atrata Ripley, 1941 – en las islas Togian;
• M. d. sanghirensis Salvadori, 1878 – en las islas Sangihe y Talaud;
• M. d. albicapilla Bonaparte, 1854 – en Célebes e islas cercanas;
• M. d. sedecima Neumann, 1939 – en las islas Sula.

De sultanskoekoeksduif (Macropygia doreya) is een vogel uit de familie Columbidae (duiven). De soort wordt meestal nog beschouwd als een ondersoort van de tortelkoekoeksduif (M. amboinensis)

Verspreiding en leefgebied

Deze duif komt voor op de Noord-Molukken, Celebes tot in het westen van Nieuw-Guinea.

Sultangökduva^[1] (Macropygia doreya) är en fågel i familjen duvor inom ordningen duvfåglar.^[2]

Utbredning och systematik

Sultangökduvan förekommer i östra Indonesien och delas in i sju underarter med följande utbredning:^[2]

• albicapilla-gruppen
  • Macropygia doreya sanghirensis – öarna Sangihe, Siau, Tahulandang, Ruang och Talaudöarna
  • Macropygia doreya albicapilla – Sulawesi, Banggaiöarna, Tukangbesi och närliggande öar
  • Macropygia doreya atrata – ön Togian utanför Sulawesi
  • Macropygia doreya sedecima – Sulaöarna
• doreya-gruppen
  • Macropygia doreya albiceps – norra Moluckerna
  • Macropygia doreya doreya – nordvästra Nya Guinea och västpapuanska öarna
  • Macropygia doreya tusalia – Balimdalen på västra Nya Guinea

Tidigare behandlades den som en del av smalnäbbad gökduva (M. amboinensis).

Status

IUCN erkänner den ännu inte som art, varför den inte placeras i någon hotkategori.
