Neoodax balteatus és una espècie de peix pertanyent a la família dels odàcids i l'única del gènere Neoodax.[5]
Descripció
- Pot arribar a fer 14 cm de llargària màxima.[6][7]
Alimentació
Menja principalment crustacis bentònics (sobretot, amfípodes), mol·luscs (gastròpodes i bivalves) i poliquets.[8][9][10][11]
Hàbitat
És un peix d'aigua marina i salabrosa, demersal i de clima subtropical (32°S-45°S) que viu entre 1 i 22 m de fondària als estuaris, esculls rocallosos superficials i aigües costaneres protegides.[6][12]
Distribució geogràfica
Es troba a l'Índic oriental: el sud d'Austràlia (des de Cockburn Sound -Austràlia Occidental-[13] fins al nord de Sydney -Nova Gal·les del Sud-, incloent-hi Tasmània).[6][14][15]
Observacions
És inofensiu per als humans.[6]

The little weed whiting (Neoodax balteatus) is a species of ray-finned fish, a weed whiting from the family Odacidae which is endemic to Australia. It occurs along the Southern Australian coast, including Tasmania, ranging north to Cockburn Sound on the Indian Ocean side, and to north of the city of Sydney on the Pacific Ocean side. It inhabits marine and brackish waters, preferring sheltered areas such as estuaries and also on rocky reefs and in seagrass beds. It occurs at depths of from 1 to 22 metres (3.3 to 72.2 ft) (though usually shallower than 15 metres (49 ft)). This species grows to a length of 14 centimetres (5.5 in) SL. It can also be found in the aquarium trade. This species is the only known member of its genus.[2]
