Stegastes acapulcoensis, commonly called the Acapulco major, the Acapulco damselfish, or the Acapulco gregory, is a species of damselfish of the family Pomacentridae. It is native to the eastern Pacific Ocean.^[3]

Distribution and habitat

S. acapulcoensis is native to the tropical and subtropical eastern Pacific Ocean. Its range extends from Baja California and Mexico to the Cocos Islands, the Galapagos Islands, and Lobos de Afuera Island in the Lambayeque Region of Peru. It is found on or near reefs at depths down to about 16 m (52 ft).^[4] It is often found over sandy seabeds and in tide pools, but also sometimes in rocky or coralline habitats.^[1]

Ecology

This fish feeds on algae.^[4] Stegastes acapulcoensis farms and guards algae in its territory.^[4]

Status

Stegastes acapulcoensis is common in many parts of its range and in the Galapagos Islands the population seems to be increasing. No particular threats have been identified and the IUCN rate it as being of "least concern".^[1]

Stegastes acapulcoensis is een straalvinnige vissensoort uit de familie van rifbaarzen of koraaljuffertjes (Pomacentridae).^[2] De wetenschappelijke naam van de soort is voor het eerst geldig gepubliceerd in 1944 door Fowler.

De soort staat op de Rode Lijst van de IUCN als niet bedreigd, beoordelingsjaar 2008.^[1]

Stegastes acapulcoensis, thường được gọi là cá thia Acapulco, là một loài cá biển thuộc chi Stegastes trong họ Cá thia. Loài này được mô tả lần đầu tiên vào năm 1944.

Phân bố và môi trường sống

S. acapulcoensis là loài đặc hữu của vùng biển phía đông Thái Bình Dương, và được tìm thấy từ trung tâm vịnh California đến Peru, bao gồm các quần đảo Revillagigedo, quần đảo Galapagos, đảo Cocos và đảo Malpelo. S. acapulcoensis thường sống xung quanh các rạn san hô và những bãi đá ngầm ở độ sâu khoảng 2 – 16 m; cá con thường xuất hiện ở những hồ thủy triều^[1][2].

Mô tả

S. acapulcoensis trưởng thành dài khoảng 17 cm và có thể sống hơn 30 năm. Toàn thân của S. acapulcoensis có màu nâu, nhạt hơn ở đầu và phần thân trước. Đa số các vảy đều có viền đen. Đầu mút của vây ngực có màu trắng, nách vây ngực cũng có một dỉa màu trắng. Cá con có màu xanh lam và một số đốm đen trên vây ngực^[3][4].

Thức ăn của S. acapulcoensis chủ yếu là rong tảo. S. acapulcoensis sinh sản theo cặp, trứng bám vào đáy biển và được bảo vệ bởi cá đực. Vì cùng sống chung môi trường với loài Stegastes arcifrons nên chúng thường tạo ra các giống lai^[1][2].
