體長橢圓形，側扁而高；尾柄短，尾柄長約為尾柄高的1.7倍。吻突出，吻長約為眼徑之0.9倍。眼大，眶間隔凸出。
口亞上位，下頜稍突出；齒圓錐狀，無內列齒。鰓裂短，其下緣僅達胸鰭基底1/2處；擬鰓亦短，
延伸至胸鰭基上緣。體被細鱗，每一鱗片的表面有5直立的棘突排列成行，棘多細尖，有些具分叉的棘突。背鰭兩個，硬棘VI，第I至第III棘發育良好，第I棘最長，頭長約為其1.4倍，各棘長度由前向後漸減，硬棘之表面具棘突；第IV至第VI棘短小，但明顯突出於皮外。腹鰭棘粗大，棘上有許多逆行的小棘刺，腹鰭棘略長於背鰭第I棘，其後軟條短小。尾鰭圓形。
體淡紅色，體側具有三條明顯暗帶，第一條在第一背鰭基底下方，第二條自眼上方延伸至第二背鰭基底末端，第三條自眼後中央沿著胸鰭基上方而延伸至肛門上方。腹膜黑色。

Hàbitat
És un peix marí i d'aigües profundes que viu entre 600-615 m de fondària.[4]
Distribució geogràfica
Es troba a Kenya, Hong Kong i el Mar de la Xina Meridional.[4][6]
Observacions
És inofensiu per als humans.[4]
