Eyes large; snout short, moderately pointed, its anterolateral margin incompletely supported by bone. Head ridges strong but with rather fine spinules; terminal snout scute trifid, wider than long, small and blunt to large and pointed, with a terminal and two lateral arms of about equal size. Underside of the snout naked medially. Light organ large, a black naked fossa between and slightly anterior to the pelvic fin bases. Overall color is pale grayish-brown to swarthy, with a series of broad saddle marks in some; oral cavity pale to dark (Ref. 1371). Spiny fin ray of first dorsal fin with a smooth and rounded leading edge (Ref. 35388).

Coelorinchus caelorhincus és una espècie de peix de la família dels macrúrids i de l'ordre dels gadiformes.

Morfologia

Alimentació

Es nodreix d'organismes bentònics: poliquets, cefalòpodes, gastròpodes i crustacis (copèpodes, isòpodes, Cumacea i Natantia) i peixos.[5]

Depredadors

És depredat per Galeus melastomus i Merluccius albidus.[7][8]

Hàbitat

És un peix d'aigües profundes que viu entre 90-1250 m de fondària,[9] tot i que normalment ho fa entre 200-500.[10][5]

Distribució geogràfica

Es troba a l'Atlàntic nord-oriental,[11][12][13][14][15][16][17][18][19] la Mar Mediterrània[20][21][22][23][24][25][26][27][28][29][30][31][32][33][34] i el Canadà.[35][36][5][37][38]

Longevitat

Pot arribar als 10 anys de vida.[39]

The specific name derives from Greek κοῖλος (koilos, "hollow") and ῥύγχος (rhynchos, "snout").[8]

Description

The hollowsnout grenadier is silvery in colour. It is up to 48 cm (1.57 ft) in length.[9]

Habitat

The hollowsnout grenadier lives in the Atlantic Ocean and Mediterranean Sea;[10] it is benthopelagic, living at depths of 90–1,485 m (295–4,872 ft).[11][9][12][13][14]

Behaviour

The hollowsnout grenadier feeds on polychaetes, gastropods, cephalopods, crustaceans and fish.[9]

Il pesce sorcio o celorinco (Coelorinchus caelorhincus) è un pesce abissale della famiglia Macrouridae.

Distribuzione e habitat

È presente nel mar Mediterraneo ma non in mar Adriatico e nell'Oceano Atlantico tra le Isole Britanniche e l'Africa tropicale.
Vive su fondi fangosi a profondità elevate, tra circa 200 ed oltre 2000 metri.

Descrizione

Come tutti i pesci topo ha il corpo assottigliato in una lunga coda sottile (da cui il nome di pesce topo), che si ingrossa in quella anteriore in una testa abbastanza grande con un muso appuntito ed un breve barbiglio sulla mandibola. Gli occhi sono molto grandi. Le pinne dorsali sono due: la prima breve ed alta, con 10 raggi e la seconda molto lunga e bassa, che raggiunge l'estremità posteriore del corpo (la pinna caudale è assente). La pinna anale è simmetrica alla seconda dorsale e più alta;pinne pettorali e pinne ventrali piccole. C'è un fotoforo tra le pinne ventrali. Al tatto appare ruvido a causa delle piccole spine presenti sulle squame.
Il colore è grigio piombo con sfumature violacee, il ventre e le pinne pari hanno colore nero, anche le pinne impari hanno un bordo scuro.
Raggiunge i 35 cm di lunghezza.

Alimentazione

Si ciba di invertebrati bentonici.

Riproduzione

Depone le uova tutto l'anno, queste sono pelagiche, la larva che se ne schiude ha testa gialla ed è macchiettata di nero. Esiste il dimorfismo sessuale nelle dimensioni, le femmine sono più grandi.

Biologia

Quando viene estratto dall'acqua può emettere suoni simili al grugnito di un maiale.

Pesca

Si cattura solo occasionalmente con reti a strascico e palamiti, le carni sono buone, simili a quelle del nasello o del merluzzo ma non si incontra sui mercati.

Coelorinchus caelorhincus is een straalvinnige vissensoort uit de familie van de rattenstaarten (Macrouridae).[2] De wetenschappelijke naam van de soort is voor het eerst geldig gepubliceerd in 1810 door Risso.
