Dasycrotapha pygmaea (Ogilvie-Grant 1896)

The Visayan pygmy babbler (Dasycrotapha pygmaea) is a bird species endemic to the Philippines (Leyte and Samar). It belongs to the genus Dasycrotapha. It was placed in the family Timaliidae, but recently found to be better placed in the family Zosteropidae.

It was formerly included with the Mindanao pygmy babbler (D. plateni) under the common name of "pygmy babbler".

Its natural habitats are subtropical or tropical moist lowland forests and subtropical or tropical moist montane forests. It is becoming rare due to habitat loss.

El timalí pigmeo (Dasycrotapha pygmaea)^[2]​ es una especie de ave paseriforme de la familia Zosteropidae endémica de Filipinas.

Distribución y hábitat

Se encuentra únicamente las islas de Sámar y Leyte, pertenecientes a las Bisayas orientales. Su hábitat natural son los bosques húmedos tropicales. Está amenazado por la pérdida de hábitat.

Taxonomía

Anteriormente se consideraba conespecífico de timalí de Mindanao (D. plateni), pero en la actualidad se consideran especies separadas. Ahora se clasifica en el género Dasycrotapha, pero en el pasado se clasificó en los géneros Stachyris y Sterrhoptilus

Samarglasögonfågel^[2] (Dasycrotapha pygmaea) är en fågel i familjen glasögonfåglar inom ordningen tättingar.^[3] IUCN kategoriserar arten som nära hotad. Den förekommer i Filippinerna, på Leyte och Samar.^[3] Tidigare betraktades den som en underart till D. plateni och vissa gör det fortfarande.^[4]
