The painted tody-flycatcher (Todirostrum pictum) is a species of bird in the family Tyrannidae, the tyrant flycatchers. It is found in the Guianas of French Guiana, Guyana and Suriname; also eastern-southeastern Venezuela and the northeastern states of Brazil of the Amazon Basin.
Its natural habitats are subtropical or tropical moist lowland forests and heavily degraded former forest.
The painted tody-flycatcher is a medium to small bird, with a bright sulphur-yellow breast and small areas of white-black sides; it has a jet-black head, white on the upper neck, and mostly black wings with yellow feathers, and some white feathers. It has a medium to long, strong black bill, and a white spot above the cere between the eyes.
The range of the painted tody-flycatcher is centered on the Guianas, and the Guiana Shield countries bordering the northeast Amazon Basin. The contiguous range is only north of the Amazon River and extends northwestwards into southeast and eastern Venezuela.
The range in Venezuela is limited to the upstream regions of the Caribbean north-flowing Orinoco River; it occurs on the downstream, eastern banks of the Orinoco River drainage to the Caribbean, away from the river proper by about 100 km. In Venezuela's eastern neighboring Roraima state Brazil, the range is complete; the area to the west, extreme northeast Amazonas state, the painted tody-flycatcher's range is limited to the northeast banks of the Rio Negro.
At the Amazon River outlet to the Atlantic Ocean, the species' range is all of the northeastern state of Amapá with neighboring French Guiana and the Atlantic Ocean.

El titirijí pintado[2] o espatulilla pintada (Todirostrum pictum),[3] es una especie de ave paseriforme de la familia Tyrannidae, perteneciente al género Todirostrum. Es nativa del norte de la Amazonia y del escudo guayanés en América del Sur.
Se distribuye en el sureste de Venezuela (Amazonas, Bolívar), Guyana, Surinam, Guayana francesa y adyacente norte de Brasil (al norte del río Amazonas, hacia el este desde el río Negro).[4]
Esta especie es considerada poco común en su hábitat natural: el dosel y los bordes de selvas húmedas y clareras adyacentes, donde es muy discreto, hasta los 400 m de altitud.[5]
Mide 9 a 10 cm de longitud y pesa entre 6 y 8 g.[4] Su cabeza es negro azabache, tiene las partes inferiores de color amarillo con líneas negras en el pecho; las partes superiores verdes con hombros negros y los bordes de las alas amarillos; listas lorales y cuello blancos; el iris es de color amarillo llamativo.[6] El pico es negro.[7]
Se alimenta de insectos alados. También incluye frutos en su dieta.[8]
Construye un nido de forma esférica, con una entrada lateral y trasera, que cuelga de una rama.[7]
La especie T. pictum fue descrita por primera vez por el zoólogo británico Osbert Salvin en 1897 bajo el mismo nombre científico; su localidad tipo es: «Annai, Guyana».[4]
El nombre genérico neutro «Todirostrum» se compone del género Todus y de la palabra del latín «rostrum»: pico, significando «con el pico parecido a un Todus»;[9] y el nombre de la especie «pictum», proviene del latín «pictus»: pintado.[10]
Algunas veces ha sido tratada como conespecífica con Todirostrum nigriceps y T. chrysocrotaphum, pero difieren en la morfología. Es monotípica.[4]
