Perennials, 40–150(–200) cm, colonial; long-rhizomatous. Stems 1–5, ascending to erect, glabrous. Leaves thin, margins entire, apices acute, faces glabrous; basal withering by flowering, petiolate, blades linear to narrowly lanceolate, 100–150 × 5–10 mm, attenuate or cuneate, margins entire, apices acute, faces usually glabrous; proximalmost cauline usually withering by flowering, sessile, blades linear to narrowly lanceolate or oblanceolate, 50–90 × 5–8(–20) mm, bases attenuate or cuneate; distal sessile, blades 40–80 × 5–8(–15) mm, bases cuneate. Heads in paniculiform arrays, branches some at least 25 cm. Peduncles glabrous or sparsely villous, bracts 5–15, sessile, lance-linear to lanceolate, margins sometimes spiculate. Involucres campanulate, 5–8 mm. Phyllaries in 4–5 series, narrowly oblong (outer) to linear (inner), unequal (outer at least 3 times longer than wide), bases (outer) indurate 1 / 2 or less, margins scarious proximally, eciliate or ciliolate, green zones lanceolate to elliptic, apices acute to acuminate, faces glabrous. Ray florets 20–45+; corollas violet, laminae 10–18 × 1–2 mm. Disc florets 35–70+; corollas yellow, 5–7 mm, lobes triangular, 0.8–1.5 mm. Cypselae brown, cylindric to obovoid, not compressed, 3–4 mm, 2–4-nerved, faces glabrous or hairy; pappi white, 5–7 mm. 2n = 16, 64.

Symphyotrichum lentum (formerly Aster lentus) is a species of flowering plant in the family Asteraceae with the common name of Suisun Marsh aster.[4] It is a perennial and herbaceous plant endemic to the marshes of Sacramento-San Joaquin River Delta of Northern California.
Description
Symphyotrichum lentum is similar in appearance to Symphyotrichum chilense, which may be found in the same area. It is a colonial perennial herb producing a hairless stem 40 to 200 centimeters (1+1⁄4 to 6+1⁄2 feet) tall from a long rhizome. The leaves are linear or lance-shaped, pointed, and up to 15 centimeters (6 inches) long near the base of the plant. The lower leaves wither by the time the plant flowers. The inflorescence is an open array of flower heads with a fringe of violet ray florets around a center of yellow disc florets. The fruit is a hairy cypsela with a long white pappus.[5]
Distribution and habitat
Symphyotrichum lentum is endemic to the salt marshes and wet grasslands of the Sacramento–San Joaquin River Delta in Northern California.[5]
Conservation
NatureServe lists it as Imperiled (G2) worldwide.[1]

Distribution endémique
Il est endémique des marais du delta du fleuve Sacramento-San Joaquin dans le nord de la Californie, y compris du marais Suisun, dans le comté de Solano, ainsi nommé.
Description
Symphyotrichum lentum a une apparence similaire à celle de Symphyotrichum chilense, présente dans la même région. C'est une plante herbacée vivace coloniale produisant une tige sans poil de 40 à 150 cm de hauteur à partir d'un long rhizome. Les feuilles sont linéaires ou en forme de lance, pointues et peuvent atteindre 15 centimètres de long près de la base de la plante. Les feuilles inférieures se fanent au moment où la plante fleurit.
L'inflorescence est un ensemble ouvert de capitules avec une frange de fleurons à rayons violets autour d'un centre de fleurons à disque jaune. Le fruit est un akène velu avec un long pappus blanc.
