Oenothera pallida Lindl. subsp. pallida. Has also been treated as var. pallida. In addition to the beetle eating the stamens, there is a tiny reddish mite-sized insect just above the beetle's right antenna almost in the direct center of the flower..May 12, 2012, Wasatch foothills, within small remaining amount of natural open space in the vicinity of the University of Utah Research Park, approx. 5075 ft. Very few plants of this species in this area; here there are mostly scattered O. cespitosa.

Oenothera pallida Lindl. var. pallida (syn. O. pallida subsp.pallida).May 26, 2012, Wasatch foothills rainy day, Olympus Hills Park, 4850 ft. elev. The park has a nice and very variable goup of O. pallida (some might be from the misguided use of seed mixes in the early days when the park was first designated). While it is present not too far away at roughly the Bonneville Shoreline level, O. cespitosa is not present in the park.

Named for Dr. Welsh's spouse and a co-collector of the type.April 22, 2006, Kane County, Utah, approx. 5,650 ft. elev., in the vicinity of the type.First named in 2003, Stella's evening-primrose is a fairly rare endemic mound-forming taxon that grows on harsh substrates (mainly calcareous or limestones shales) in four counties in southern Utah, and is thought to be long-lived, colonial, leaves densely hirsute, appearing gray or gray-green. Growing near and on similar habitat as Physaria tumulosa (syn. Lesquerella tumulosa). As pictured above, it is in a very early stage of "coming back to life."
