Annual or perennial herbs. Stipular sheath ± membranous, bearing 1 or 2 ± fimbriate triangular lobes or 2-8 fringing subulate fimbriae. Leaves opposite. Flowers bisexual, (3-)4(-5)-merous;
stigmas and anthers always included in the corolla tube, never heterostylous, in terminal, often panicle-like inflorescences. Calyx lobes
4(-5). Stigma usually held well below the anthers or occasionally just touching anthers. Ovary 2-locular. Capsules hemispheric;
± spherical or ellipsoid; beak not conspicuous.

Kohautia is a genus of flowering plants in the family Rubiaceae. They are native to tropical areas of Asia, Africa, and Madagascar.[1][2] Thirty-one species are known.[2] The type species for the genus is Kohautia senegalensis.[3]
Kohautia was named by Adelbert von Chamisso and Diederich von Schlechtendal in 1829.[4] This generic name honors Franz Kohaut (d. 1822), a plant collector who worked in West Africa for the botanist Franz Sieber (1789-1844).[5]
