Erect, 1 to 3 m tall perennial herb or shrub, densely stellate tomentose, velvety. Leaves 4-16 cm long, 3-13 cm broad, broadly ovate or orbicular-ovate, cordate at base, acute to acuminate at apex, irregularly dentate, stellate pubescent on both surfaces, more densely and velvety; beneath, scabrulous above; petiole 2-6 cm long, stellate tomentose, velvety; stipules 5-8 mm long, 2 mm broad, lanceolate or linear-lanceolate. Flowers axillary, solitary of fascicled or by the reduction of leaves in terminal racemes, sometimes appearing as 2 or 4 cyme like on the same peduncle; pedicel 0.5-1 cm long, in fruit up to c.2 cm, stellate tomentose, velvety, articulate ± in the middle. Calyx 8-10 mm long, in fruit up to 15 mm long, fused to the middle, leathery, densely pubescent on both sides; lobes broad-ovate or deltoid, acuminate, Corolla yellow to orange-yellow, 3-4 cm across; petals 1.5-2 cm long, obovate, oblique, slightly notched. Staminal column 5-6 mm long, stellate pubescent. Fruit c. 15 mm across, shorter than calyx, finaly truncate, floccose; mericarps 27-33, 7-8 mm long, 4-5 mm broad, reniform, with a mucro on the back, separating after dehiscent. Seeds 3 in each mericarps, 2 mm across, reniform, sparsely hairy.
