The blue-tailed damselfly is a common dragonfly in all kinds of waters. It is even found in polluted and brackish water. The hind body is black, with the eighth segment colored a bright blue. The dark spot in the wings is diamond-shaped. The blue-tailed damselfly is found in the wadden region, the dune coast and the delta region. The numbers of blue-tailed damselflies can be immense in reed marshes. At the end of May 1995, close to 300 specimen per 50 meters were counted on Ameland.
