Resident in patchy distribution in western United States and southern Canada (Scott 1986). Habitats are open cushion-plant communities on ridges (sometimes in forest openings) from high plains and sagebrush hills to Alpine zone. Host plants are usually herbaceous with most known hosts restricted to a few species in family Leguminosae. Eggs are laid on the host plant singly. Larvae eat seeds and leaves. Lifecycle is biennial, overwintering the first winter as eggs, second winter as nearly mature larvae. There is one flight each year with the approximate flight time mostly late June-July30, above timberline July15-Aug15 (Scott 1986).
