Papilio posthumus Fabricius, 1793 [1793-1794]: 128. Epitola posthumus: Aurivillius,
1920 [1908-1925]: 351; pi. 64e. Jackson, 1962: 128. =Epitola belli Hewitson, 1874d: 382 ( 2 ).
Jackson records this species from Ghana eastward to Uganda, south into former French Equatorial Africa. Aurivillius (1920) records it from Sierra Leone as well. It has not as yet been found in Liberia.

Epitola posthumus, the common giant epitola, is a butterfly in the family Lycaenidae. It is found in Guinea, Sierra Leone, Ivory Coast, Ghana, Togo, Nigeria (south and the Cross River loop), Cameroon, Gabon and the Republic of Congo.[2] Its habitat consists of forests.
