Palaiargia ernstmayri is a species of broad-winged damselfly in the family Platycnemididae.[1][2] The species is endemic to the Arfak Mountains of New Guinea, with only four observations to date.[3]
The scientific name of the species was first published in 1972 by Lieftinck. Lieftinck based the species on specimens in museum collections collected in 1928 at the village of Siwi by Ernst Mayr, and in 1957 at the village of Sururai by Hardy.[4] The species has been reported only twice more, by S. Lamberts near Mokwam in 2011[2] and by Marco Langbroek near Syoubri in 2016.[3]
Males of the species are almost completely dark, with two striking red stripes on the breast and red spots between the eyes. The lower abdomen appendages are hook-shaped.[3][4][5]

Palaiargia ernstmayri is een libellensoort uit de familie van de breedscheenjuffers (Platycnemididae), onderorde juffers (Zygoptera).[2][3]. De soort is endemisch voor het Arfak gebergte, met tot op heden slechts vier waarnemingen.[4]
De wetenschappelijke naam van de soort is voor het eerst geldig gepubliceerd in 1972 door Lieftinck. Lieftinck baseerde de soort op exemplaren in museumcollecties verzameld in 1928 bij het dorpje Siwi door Ernst Mayr, en in 1957 bij het dorpje Sururai door Hardy.[5]. Mannetjes van de soort zijn nagenoeg geheel donker, met twee opvallende rode strepen op het borststuk en rode vlekken tussen de ogen. De onderste achterlijfaanhangsels zijn haakvormig.[8][9][10]
