Lynx rufus escuinapae és una subespècie de linx vermell, de la família dels fèlids, que viu principalment als estats mexicans de Sinaloa i Nayarit.[2]
Es tracta de la subespècie més petita de linx vermell, que creix fins a dues vegades la mida d'un gat domèstic. Té un aspecte similar al dels linx, amb l'excepció de la cua, que és més fosca.[3] Els adults d'aquesta espècie pesen entre 4 i 14 quilograms.[2] El color del seu pelatge varia del gris clar al marró vermellós, i està cobert de més taques que les espècies del nord, i és més dens i té pels més curts.[2][3] Aquesta subespècie té ratlles negres distintives a les potes del davant i l'extrem de la cua negre, així com les puntes de les orelles de color negre també.[2] Unes marques de pèl emmarquen el rostre de l'animal.
Aquesta subespècie es troba arreu de Mèxic, encara que principalment a la Baixa Califòrnia, l'oest de Mèxic, i cap al sud del desert de Sonora.[4] També viu als estats mexicans de Sinaloa i Nayarit, així com a parts de Sonora, Jalisco, Durango, San Luis Potosí, Nuevo León, Hidalgo, Morelos, Puebla, Tlaxcala, Tamaulipas, Michoacán, Guerrero, Veracruz i Oaxaca.[2] Viu en una sèrie de zones que inclouen boscos, pantans costaners, deserts i matollars.
Són animals sedentaris i territorials. El seu territori pot comprendre diversos quilòmetres quadrats i solapar-se amb el de diverses femelles i mascles. El territori de les femelles rarament s'encavalca amb el d'altres femelles.[2] Generalment viuen entre 10 i 12 anys.[3]
Són animals carnívors que s'alimenten de rosegadors, llebres, pècaris de collar, ocells, cérvol i coatís de nas blanc. De vegades cacen serps, llangardaixos i escorpins.[2] Són animals nocturns i solitaris que rarament se'ls pot veure.
Els individus s'ajunten breument un cop a l'any per aparellar-se. La temporada de reproducció d'aquest animal pot tenir lloc en qualsevol moment de l'any, en lloc d'estar estrictament limitada a la primavera. Les femelles donen a llum una ventrada formada per 2 o 3 gatets, els quals crien elles soles.
Les amenaces modernes d'aquesta subespècie són la destrucció del seu hàbitat, la captura i cacera il·legal, i la militarització de la frontera entre Mèxic i els Estats Units. Encara que el linx vermell fou inclos a la llista d'espècie en perill dels Estats Units el juny del 1976, el 2003 es proposà treure la subespècie de la llista. Uns pocs anys després es va fer una proposta oficial de treure l'espècie de la llista, encara que actualment encara hi és.[2][5]

The Mexican bobcat (Lynx rufus escuinapae syn. Lynx rufus oaxacensis) is a population of the bobcat in Mexico. The Mexican bobcat is most commonly found in the states of Sinaloa and Nayarit.[3] As of 2017, it is uncertain whether or not this is a valid subspecies.[2]
The Mexican bobcat is the smallest of the bobcat subspecies and grows to about twice the size of a house cat. It is similar in appearance to the lynx except for the tail, which is darker in color.[4] Adults of this species range from nine to thirty pounds.[3] The coat color of this animal varies from light gray to reddish brown. The coat is covered in more spots than that of the northern subspecies of bobcat and has shorter, denser hair than its northern cousin.[3][4] This species has the distinctive black stripes of fur on the forelegs and a black tip on the tail along with black tipped ears and a whiskered face.[3] A tuft of fur frames the animal's face.
The Mexican bobcat is found throughout Mexico, but primarily in Baja, western Mexico, and southward from the Sonoran desert.[5] The creature is also found in the Mexican states of Sinaloa and Nayarit, as well as parts of Sonora, Jalisco, Durango, San Luis Potosí, Nuevo León, Hidalgo, Morelos, Puebla, Tlaxcala, Tamaulipas, Michoacán, Guerrero, Veracruz, and Oaxaca.[3] The Mexican bobcat lives in a variety of areas, including forests, coastal swamps, deserts, and scrublands. The animals are nonmigratory and are territorial. The territory of a male Mexican bobcat may stretch for a few miles and overlap with several female bobcat and male bobcat territories. The female Mexican bobcat's territory rarely overlaps with another female's territory.[3]
Mexican bobcats are carnivores and eat rodents, jackrabbits, collared peccaries, birds, deer, and white-nosed coatis. On occasion they will hunt snakes, lizards, and scorpions.[3] They are solitary, nocturnal animals and are rarely seen by humans. The animals gather briefly once a year to mate. The Mexican bobcat breeding season can take place anytime during the year and is not strictly limited to spring. The female gives birth to a litter of two to three kittens, which she raises on her own. The species generally lives for ten to twelve years.[4]
Modern threats to the Mexican bobcat are habitat destruction, illegal trapping and shooting, and militarization of the U.S. - Mexico border. Although the bobcat was added to the U.S. Endangered Species List in June 1976, a delisting of the Mexican bobcat species was proposed in 2003. An official proposition to delist the species was made a few years later, although the species still remains on the list.[3][6]

Meksički crveni ris (lat. Lynx rufus escuinapae) je podvrsta crvenoog risa iz porodice mačaka. Najudomaćeniji je u meksičkim državama Sinaola i Nayarit[1].
Najmanja je podvrsta crvenog risa, i naraste oko dvije veličine domaće mačke. Po izgledu je slična običnom risu, samo joj je rep tamnije boje[2]. Odrasla jedinka teška je 4-13 kilograma. Boja mu varira od svjetlo-sive do crvenkasto-smeđe. Ima karakteristične crne pruge na prednjm nogama i crni vrh na repu, zajedno s crnim vrhovima ušiju i zalizaka na licu.
Mesožder je, hrani se zečevima, glodavcima, ogrličastim pekarijem, nosatim rakunima, pticama i jelenima. Osamljena je, noćna životinja koju rijetko viđaju ljudi. Samo tijekom sezone parenja dosta se jedinki skupi. Sezona parenja može biti u bilo koje doba godine, nije nužno u proljeće.
