Sporangia sessile or with a very short stipe, globose or ovate and smaller above, 0.9-1.3 mm. in diameter, 1-1.5 mm. tall, violet-blue with shining, metallic reflections; columella cylindric, about half the height of the sporangium; capillitium dense, dark purple-brown or black, colorless at the tips; spores violaceous-brown, spinulose, 10-12 n in diameter.
* as "robusta." Type locality: Italy.
Habitat: Turf and herbaceous stalks and twigs.
Distribution: Colorado, Utah, Oregon, California; Europe.
