Fuirena hexachaeta Schlecht. Linnaea 19: 69. 1847. (Toluca, Mexico.)
Perennial with creeping rootstocks ; culms slender, 4-6 dm. tall ; leaves narrow, stiff, pubescent, 5-12 cm. long, 2-5 mm. wide ; inflorescence of dense heads of 6-10 spikelets in a terminal panicle; spikelets 8-12 mm. long, oblong, the aristate, pubescent scales not closely appressed; bristles usually 6, slender, retrorsely barbed, equaling or exceeding the shortbeaked achene ; anthers 2 mm. long.
Type locality : Goyaz, Brazil.
Distribution : Wet places : Mexico ; Guatemala ; Panama ; South America.
