Phormingochilus

Phormingochilus is a genus of Indonesian tarantulas that was first described by Reginald Innes Pocock in 1895.^[2] They are occasionally kept as exotic pets, and are known for moving in bursts of speed and being defensive when cornered.^[3]

Diagnosis

They can be distinguished by the round apex of the male palpal bulb, they can also be distinguished by the size of leg 1 and 4 in females. Further more, they can only be found in Borneo.^[4]

As of July 2022 it contains four species, found on Borneo:^[1]

Phormingochilus is een geslacht van spinnen uit de familie vogelspinnen (Theraphosidae). Dit geslacht treft men aan in landen in Zuidoost-Azië, voornamelijk in Thailand en op Sumatra. De grootste soort (P. everetti) kan een lichaamslengte van 7,5 cm bereiken, maar meestal worden ze 5 tot 6 cm lang. Normaal gezien worden deze soorten niet in gevangenschap gehouden, omdat ze redelijk zeldzaam zijn (vooral P. fuchsi en P. tigrinus).
