A slender tufted perennial, with flat glabrous leaf-blades and pubescent spikelets. Stems 3-6 dm. tall, slender; leaf-sheaths smooth and glabrous; blades 5-20 cm. long, 3-7 mm. wide, narrowed at both ends, linear, erect or nearly so, flat, glabrous; racemes 2-6, erect, 1.5-5 cm. long, slender, the rachis about 0.5 mm. wide; spikelets in pairs, 1.5-1.8 mm. long and about 0.8 mm. wide, elliptic, the first scale wanting, the second and third scales sparsely papillosepubescent with appressed hairs, 3-nerved, the fruiting scale yellowishwhite.
Type locality : Hispaniola.
Distribution : Southern Florida and Bahamas to Jamaica, Cuba, I-Tispaniola, and Porto Rico.
