Cypripedium, like all orchids have unusual floral parts and arrangements. There are three sepals, one dorsal on top, and two below united, often hiding behind the pouch. There are three petals, two of which are greenish as resemble the sepals and extend like two arms horizontally from attachment point. The lower petal has been modified to form a sac like lip. The staminode appears like a lid over the top of the lip. Under the staminode are the stamens (2 functional) and the pistil. The stigma hangs down beneath the arms (filaments) of the stamens.
